Equipment Availability

Audio-visual equipment is available for use by department faculty, graduate student instructors and students in support of classes and other department sanctioned activities. A slide and overhead projector are provided in all department classrooms and are accessible via key. (Keys are issued by Dan Plumlee). All items listed above are available on a checkout basis.
Please note: media projectors and televisions are restricted to use in McCone Hall.

It is best to schedule equipment needs at the beginning of the semester, but 2 weeks advance notice is the rule. Please keep in mind that some resources are scarce and are reserved to the first person who provides the necessary information.

It is important to record and monitor long-term, blanket equipment reservations. Please update reservations as your needs change in order to avoid scheduling conflicts and to free reserved equipment for others when you no longer need it.

We will do our best to accommodate walk-in equipment requests, but cannot guarantee immediate access to the staff or equipment. It is the responsibility of the user to reserve such equipment beforehand.

Reserving Equipment

Equipment reservations can be made by contacting Dan Plumlee via telephone (642-4368), e-mail (dplum@berkeley.edu) or by dropping by the office in room 519 McCone. If you leave your request as a message, consider the reservation made upon receipt of a confirming return message.

To reserve equipment, please supply the following information:

your name
the equipment you wish to use
the class title
the classroom number
the time and duration of the class

This information will be entered into a scheduling program currently accessible to Dan Plumlee, Delores Dillard and Nat Vonnegut.

Pick-up and Return of Equipment

To gain access to projection equipment at time of need, contact Dan Plumlee, or Delores Dillard if he is not available. In the event that neither Dan nor Delores can be located, the other staff may be able to help.

When returning equipment, make sure that you leave it secure in its proper storage area or in the hands of department staff. If no-one can be located, secure the item in your office and message the staff person who issued you the equipment.

Please note:
If you require equipment setup or retrieval you must schedule this specifically with Dan Plumlee at least 2 weeks in advance of the class period. A standard equipment reservation does not include this service.

All users of computer projected media are encouraged to schedule a debugging session with Dan Plumlee at least 30 minutes prior to show time. Keep in mind that the projector is only a monitor and problems with the interface generally lie with the computer and are the responsibility of the computer owner.
