| Vehicle Breakdown |
| Use your best judgment when dealing with vehicle breakdowns. You can call Dan Plumlee (H- 510-506-0460, W- 642-4368) for advice. Do whatever is needed to keep the passengers safe, then worry about the vehicles and equipment. Department Vehicle For local towing (range: 1 hour's distance or closer) call Berry Brothers Towing (510-465-7215 or 1-800-464-7215). They have a contract with the university. Tell the dispatcher that they are towing a 4WD extended-cab, long-bed pickup. They will send a larger tow truck. Have the vehicle towed to Inca Chevron, on the corner of Telegraph Avenue & Ashby Avenue in Berkeley. For non-local towing you are on your own. The University currently has no contract with a towing agency outside of the local area. Most fuel/service stations will accept your Fuel Credit Card for repairs & towing charges. If not, pay out of pocket or use your own insurance. You will be reimbursed by the department for necessary costs. Rental Vans Call the rental agency, generally Enterprise Rentals (510-705-8989), request to speak to the person in charge. If the breakdown occurs after office hours, leave a message clearly describing the location and condition of the vehicle. Collect all rental forms, secure the vehicle and return via other transportation. Keep Dan Plumlee informed as to the status of the vehicles and passengers. Remember: Ask for and keep all invoices, copies and receipts for rentals, repairs and gas. Give them to Dan when you return. Notify Dan of all vehicle trouble as soon as possible. |
