Brief Biography:
Malcolm Barker was born in London, England in 1933. He worked as a newspaper reporter in south of England. He then spent six years traveling around the world as a crewmember on British cruise ships. He has also worked as the Business Manager at the San Francisco studio of advertising photographer Walter Swarthout. Barker now resides in Marin.

Public Lecture Topics:

In the last 5 years, Malcolm Barker has given 36 lectures with slides to a variety of history associations, libraries, and bookstores. These were based on the history of San Francisco up to and including the 1906 earthquake and fire. He also gave similar presentations at two visiting conventions: Epson Electric Institute (Washington, DC) and Fairmont Hotel on June 27, 1999 and Taylor Engineering (New Jersey) at Hyatt Regency Hotel on October 6, 1998.

Since 1994, Barker has been interviewed on several radio and television shows, usually on publication of one of his books. Many of these were broadcast live. He appeared in two episodes of KRON-TV's "Bay Area 2000" series, and will be seen again on an upcoming Learning Channel program about the 1906 earthquake and fire. Recent radio appearances include: KCBS-FM "In Depth", August 30, 1998; KKSF-FM July 26, 1998; KQED-FM "Forum" (Michael Krasny) July 16, 1998; KPFA-FM (Denny Smithson) August 10, 1998.
