Morphology, Distribution, and Habitat (After Mason, 1957)

The fruit is ellipsoid, flattened and 4-6 millimeters long, 1-celled and beaked by the persistent style and developing 2 recurved lateral basal spines. The plant is common in quiet, fresh-water pools and slow streams throughout California.
