Morphology, Distribution, and Habitat (After Mason, 1957)

The seed is 0.5-0.8 millimeters, light brown to reddish brown, and generally wingless. The surface is smooth or slightly roughened, papillate or not. The plant is found in alkaline places, salt marshes, mudflats, sandy coasts, sandy river bottoms and the seashore. Its distribution includes the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys as well as coastal areas to southern California; north to Washington and east to the Atlantic.
